Personal Note from Rachel
Two questions for you. What are you most proud of? What are you most grateful for?
For me, this month I received the following email message:
Dear Rachel,
Congratulations! Your application for the designation of PCC has been approved by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). This career milestone signifies your commitment to high professional and ethical standards in the coaching industry, and to your own continued growth and education.
I am filled with a sense of accomplishment, as it represents another step on the road to coaching mastery. This badge represents over 10 years of learning through ICF accredited programs, multiple reviews of recorded sessions to hone my coaching skills and hands-on coaching experience.
For those of you that supported me along this journey, I am so grateful to all of you. Thank you! To my clients, I couldn't have done this without you, and I am honoured and privileged to work with you and to witness your growth, courage in overcoming obstacles and determination to live with personal and professional integrity.
Over the past decade, so many people have asked me some variation of the question, 'How come you left pharmacy Rachel?' I am proud to say that I am, and remain, a Pharmacist. In fact, I am proud to be known as 'the Pharmacist Coach.'
For my mentors and colleagues who have partnered with me along this journey so far, a big THANK YOU!
- To Adrian Mitchel & Eoin McCabe who started me on my coaching journey with the Irish Lifecoach Institute.
- To Shiri Ben-Arzi and Michael Arloski who broadened my coaching lens towards Medical, Health and Wellness Coaching.
- To Reciprocoach and all my Reciprocoach Coaching and Mentoring partners. We have learned so much together.
- To Shirzad Chamine and the powerful Positive Intelligence Program, which has given me powerful tools to be more present with my clients, quieten my Saboteur Doubting Thomas voices and coach from a Sage Perspective.
- To James Martin with whom I co-led my first Coaching Skills Programmes for Pharmacists. You are an inspiring coach trainer.
- To Sarah Chambers and Rachael Clarke and all my IIOP Mentoring partners. Collaborating with you is such a joy.
- To my coaching colleagues I have met through WBECS, Positive Intelligence, the Coaches Console, Medical Coaching Institute, Institute of Health Sciences, Real Balance, Coacharya, Todd Herman’s 90 Day Year, International Centre for Coaching Supervision, Voice Dialogue, ICF Health and Wellness Coaching Community of Practice, EMCC Ireland and ICF Ireland Chapter. You enrich my life.
- To Cindy Muthukarapan who has been mentoring me towards coaching mastery. You have listened to more of my coaching recordings than any other human (other than myself) and encouraged me to press the send button on my credential applications! No mean feat!
-
To Lion Goodman, who has partnered with me through the highs and lows of leadership and parenting. And last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to my greatest teachers – my family – without whom I could still be in blissful ignorance about my S-T-R-E-T-C-H areas! As they grow, they encourage me to grow into the spouse and parent they need me to be! I believe that my coaching journey has benefited our family, more than any of us will ever know, and for that I could not be more grateful.
For YOU, what are YOU most proud of this month? What are YOU grateful for? With whom have you shared your highs and lows?
Value of Accountability Partners
I left the portion below in case you wanted to continue validating the topics we've chosen each month.
A leader's job is to thrive and to co-create a culture where you, your team and those you serve thrive and feel inspired to be at their best. Nobody is exonerated from this work. Leadership is a daily practice that starts with self-leadership, also known as personal leadership or self-care. From a solid base of self-care, you can lead by coaching and empowering others and productively manage conflict. Indeed, productive conflict can be generative and healing, when handled by our Sage Selves.
At the recent WBECS Summit, Mo Kasti, founder of CTI Leadership shared the top 10 development areas for healthcare leaders, identified by the Healthcare Leadership Institute. How would you rank YOUR top 10 development areas?

Some of the qualities required to coach and empower others include
- deepening our capacity to be present with ourselves, so we can be present with others (not distracted)
- mastering coaching skills so you can enable others to achieve personal, professional and leadership mastery (not do it for them), and
- an abundance of healthy energy, so that you have a positive (not negative) effect on those with whom you interact.
In order to bring out the best in others, we must nurture the best in ourselves. We cannot give what we do not have. I have found expanding my yoga practice to include breathwork, meditation and physical postures to be a powerful way to nurture myself so that I deepen my capacity to coach and empower others. If you feel inspired to experience these different facets of yoga with my yoga teachers CLICK HERE to join Happy Jack's Complete Beginners Guide to Yoga.' It includes a variety of different styles of yoga asana, several short meditations, three breathwork practices from several different teachers
