Definition of Mentor Coaching
According to the ICF:
“Mentor Coaching for an ICF Credential consists of coaching and feedback in a collaborative, appreciative and dialogued process based on an observed or recorded coaching session to increase the coach's capability in coaching, in alignment with the ICF Core Competencies.”
Mentor Coaching focuses on the development of your coaching skills — not on practice building, life balance, or unrelated topics.
Process and Preparation
Mentor Coaching sessions are a safe, collaborative, and non-judgemental space for reflection and professional growth. Together, we observe, discuss, and provide feedback in relation to the ICF Core Competencies and the PCC Markers.
You are encouraged to:
-
Review recorded sessions in advance and identify strengths (competencies demonstrated), stretches (areas for development), and queries.
-
Select a competency focus area for each session.
-
Share excerpts from coaching recordings during sessions via Zoom.
-
Optionally send transcripts or notes for credential preparation purposes.
All recordings remain in your custody. No audio is shared in advance, ensuring your clients’ confidentiality.
Learning Resources

Self-review against the PCC Markers is one of the most effective ways to strengthen competency.
