Personal Note from Rachel
As we enter the final six weeks of 2024, I invite you to pause and reflect on the remarkable journey you’ve navigated this year. As we leave Halloween behind us and move towards year-end, the changing seasons encourage us to review where we’ve been and envision what we want to create next.
What are your professional development needs as this year draws to a close? What knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes, and behaviours will equip you to step into 2025 with intention and resilience? How can these serve both your own growth and those you serve?
In our 6Ps of Positive Practice, we focus on mastering six interconnecting factors—Purpose, Personal, Professional, People, Products & Services, and Prosperity. These are the building blocks that help us align our development with what is needed most in our lives and work.
Reflecting on each of these areas, consider:
-
Purpose: What drives you, and how do you want to contribute in 2025?
-
Personal: What will nourish you to stay grounded, focused, and adaptable?
-
Professional: What new competencies, insights, or skills does the world need you to develop further?
-
People: How can you deepen values-based connections, trust, and support systems?
-
Products & Services: What refinements or expansions can you envision that will add value?
-
Prosperity: How can you measure success in ways that align with your broader goals?
Celebrating Leadership and Professional Milestones
In the spirit of professional development, I’m excited to celebrate key achievements and partnerships that illustrate what makes 4Front and Lead With Coaching uniquely valuable for 21st-century leaders, whose calling it is to lead through unprecedented change.
A recent milestone was completing a 6-month leadership coaching engagement with the WILD Institute, where we partnered to support purpose-driven leaders in enhancing their impact, fulfillment, and ability to lead transformative change.
Through the IIOP Mentoring Programme, I had the privilege of working with a pharmacist mentee. I look forward to celebrating our mentoring journey alongside fellow pharmacists on 14th Nov. This programme not only deepened our professional skills but also strengthened our resolve to support healthcare leadership and well-being.
It was an honour to join international coaching colleagues in Frankfurt to further evolve the ICF Coaching Competency Frameworks. This collaboration underscores 4Front’s and LCI's commitment to remaining at the forefront of coaching standards, ensuring our clients benefit from coaching approaches that are impactful, inclusive, and aligned with today’s global needs.
I attended the Lifestyle Medicine Summit this past month as part of my Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach and healthcare professional CPD. For me, it reinforced the vital role of lifestyle medicine as both a personal and professional leadership competency. As leaders, (even more so, leaders in healthcare), we are tasked with building cultures of well-being, fostering productivity, and supporting employee resilience—all of which depend on prioritising and role-modelling excellence in self-care. Self-care pillars include stress management, nutrition, exercise, sleep, love & support and inner saboteurs (stress inducing emotions, thoughts and beliefs). When we don't actively prioritise these core job/life responsibilities, workplace well-being, decision-making, performance, and overall productivity are often compromised. Healthcare leaders are particularly at risk of compassion fatigue and burnout, making self-care and personal leadership foundational (and counter-cultural) core competencies that enable us to continue growing other professional skills.
We’re also thrilled to have launched our inaugural Lead with Coaching Practitioner Programme, designed to help leaders and teams not only refine their advanced coaching skills but also cultivate the resilience, curiosity, and adaptability essential for modern leadership. Graduates from our Foundation programme now deepen their skills, practicing advanced techniques to empower their teams, foster sustainable growth, and elevate their leadership impact.
Through our global engagement with thought leaders, partnerships with purpose-driven organisations, and deep cross-industry experience, 4Front and Lead With Coaching are uniquely equipped to prepare leaders to thrive amid ongoing change. Our clients gain access to an expansive network, evidence-based leadership tools, and a commitment to creating a positive, lasting impact in their organisations and beyond.

This commitment to self-care, development, and ethical practice is essential to my dedication to bring the best of myself to my work with clients. PHARMACIST
4Front’s 6Ps of Positive Practice focus on Mastering Six Inter-Connecting Factors: Purpose, Personal, Professional, People, Products and Services, and Prosperity.
This Month's Focus: Professional Development
The Value of Professional Development in Cultivating a Positive Pharmacy Practice
Introduction: In healthcare and pharmacy, excellence isn't just a goal—it's a necessity. Creating a positive pharmacy practice that excels in patient care and inspires teams requires not only the right mindset but also the right practices. This journey from mediocrity to positivity is where the true transformation begins.
Understanding Mindsets and Practices: Before we dive into the journey, let's clarify what we mean by mindsets and practices. Mindsets are the underlying attitudes and beliefs that shape our actions and decisions. Practices, on the other hand, are the actions and behaviors that result from these mindsets. A positive pharmacy practice is rooted in both the right mindsets and the right practices.
The 6Ps Framework for Positive Practice: Our "6Ps of Pharmacy Excellence Self-Assessment Quiz" serves as a roadmap for cultivating a positive pharmacy practice. Let's explore how this framework empowers pharmacy professionals to embrace the right mindsets and practices:
-
Purpose: Purpose-driven mindsets inspire leaders to align their actions with their values and the greater mission of healthcare. The practice of setting a clear purpose fosters meaning and direction in the workplace.
-
Personal: Personal growth mindsets prioritise well-being, resilience, and emotional intelligence. The practice of continuous personal development equips leaders with the tools to manage stress and adversity effectively.
-
Professional: A commitment to professional development and alignment with evolving industry best practices are essential. Continuous learning is the practice that ensures pharmacy leaders remain current and at the forefront of their field.
-
People: Developing relational skills that create and sustain strong relationships and fostering teamwork require the right mindset. The practice of effective teamwork creates a collaborative and patient-centric environment.
-
Products & Services: Developing the clear communication, active listening and open questioning skills to understand customer needs and communicate value is vital. The practice of aligning products and services with customer expectations ensures patient satisfaction.
-
Prosperity: A prosperous pharmacy enables growth and innovation. The practice of driving prosperity through developing a professionally prosperous 'win-win-win' approach ensures the organisation thrives, creating a positive environment for all.
The Science Behind Positive Practice: Scientific research supports the idea that positive leadership leads to increased job satisfaction, higher patient satisfaction, and improved team performance. Positive mindsets and practices aren't just beneficial; they're essential for success in pharmacy practice. Click here to read the complete article.
IIOP CPD ePortfolio Review Timelines for Pharmacists Called for Review 2024/2025
Communication from the IIOP
On 17 October 2024, the IIOP sent an email to Irish registered pharmacists included in the 2024/2025 review. This email provided important information on the 2024/25 ePortfolio Review, including a link to the ePortfolio Review support resources and the specific dates in January when pharmacists called this year can submit their ePortfolio extract for review.
Submission Dates
If you have been selected for ePortfolio Review, on Monday, 6 January 2025, the IIOP ePortfolio System will send an email to the email address registered on your IIOP profile notifying you that you may now submit CPD Cycles from your ePortfolio in line with the requirements of the 2024/25 ePortfolio Review Standards. You will have until Sunday, 26 January , to submit your extract. You may submit cycles at any stage during the three-week submission window, and you may make more than one submission.
Please note that you may prepare your CPD cycles in advance so they are ready for submission in January. However, it is not possible to submit cycles before the submission period opens in January 2025. Once your cycles are fully finalised and ready to submit, submitting your extract is a straightforward process that should only take a few minutes.
In addition, below find an example of a CPD cycle from my ePortfolio, for your inspiration.
My CPD Reflective Practice Cycle Title: Enhancing Pharmacist Professional Fulfilment and Mental Fitness Through Coaching
Introduction: Positive Intelligence (PQ) approach to mental fitness, peak performance and positive workplace culture integrates cognitive behavioural science, positive psychology, performance science, and neuroscience. It aims to boost mental fitness, equipping individuals and teams, including healthcare professionals, with tools to combat stress, burnout, dysfunctional workplace culture and enhance professional fulfilment.
Self-Appraisal: According to national and international pharmacy industry reports such as the PSI Workforce Intelligence Report and FIP Sustainable Positive Practice Report, healthcare professionals face unprecedented challenges, leading to stress, burnout, and recruitment issues. Mental fitness coaching, powered by Positive Intelligence, addresses these concerns by providing evidence-based strategies to build resilience, manage stress, and improve overall well-being.
I want to explore the impact of
- Educating pharmacists in mental fitness coaching skills
- Providing pharmacists with mental fitness coaching
To address
- an employer’s reputation as a place to work
- patients’ experience of patient care
- teams’ experience of workplace culture, management, and leadership
And pharmacist
- wellbeing and professional fulfillment
- recruitment, retention, and professional engagement
- reluctance to take on ‘governance roles’ such as supervising and superintendent

Pharmacy Team Training (Support Pharmacy Governance Roles)
For COACHES (and Leaders and Pharmacists Who Lead With Coaching)
Upcoming Opportunities for
Coaches, Mentors and Super-Visors Super-Vision and Mentor Coaching:
A Path to Fulfillment and Mastery - Reflective Practice with 4Front
The ICF's evidence-based competency frameworks for Mentor Coaching and Coaching Super-Vision Raise the Bar in Coaching and Leadership by providing tools to empower effective reflective practice.
As an ICF Mentor Coach at the ACC, PCC, and MCC levels, and an EMCC-credentialed Supervisor, I’m honoured to have been one of many (hundred!) contributors to these frameworks, which elevate the standards of excellence in our field.
Competency frameworks are a vital professional development tool for any coach, mentor, or leader committed to growth and excellence. They provide
- structured guidance on deepening professional practices (in this case leading with coaching),
- enhancing reflective capacities, and
- aligning with ICF’s core values: Integrity, Excellence, Collaboration, and Respect.
Mentor coaching helps you refine your approach, while super-vision ensures reflective learning and adherence to ethical standards.
ICF defines mentor coaching as a collaborative process where coaches receive feedback based on observed sessions to refine their skills and style in alignment with ICF Core Competencies.
ICF defines coaching super-vision as a dynamic and reflective process of collaboration, guidance, and support through which coaches develop their personal, professional, and ethical capacity and maturity.
Reflective Question: How might super-vision or mentor coaching help you to unlocking your next level of mastery, as you elevate your leadership impact?
For COACHES (and Leaders and Pharmacists Who Lead With Coaching)
Call to Action: Join me in a mentor coaching session or super-vision to enhance your leadership and coaching practice, grounded in values and integrity.
The most successful and inspiring professionals understand the importance of regular reflective practice. By dedicating time to reflect, they become better equipped to avoid burnout, find deeper fulfillment in their careers, and navigate challenges with renewed clarity. Whether you're a coach, pharmacist, or leader, prioritising this space for reflection allows you to step back, gain new perspectives, and enhance your impact.
Reflecting the value professional bodies place on reflective practice as a core leadership skill,
- 5hr of Coaching Super-Vision with a qualified coaching super-visor is a core ICF credential requirement for team coach credential applicants (ICF-ACTC).
- In addition, up to 10hr of coaching super-vision can count towards Continuing Coach Education Units (CCEs) for the purposes of any ICF credential renewal.
- EMCC requires credential holders (coach, mentor, super-visor) to record a minimum of 4 coaching super-vision sessions per year.
- 10hr of Mentor Coaching with a ICF credentialed mentor coach is a core ICF credential requirement.
-
In addition, up to 10hr of mentor coaching can count towards Continuing Coach Education Units (CCEs) for the purposes of credential renewal
- Pharmacists must submit evidence of their professional development, learnings and impact through reflective practice records, once in every 5 year cycle.
Coach CCEs, Mentoring and Super-vision (aligned with ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies, ICF Coaching Super-Vision and ICF Credentials & Standards)
Reflective practice is a powerful way to unlock your professional potential. For those ready to take the next step, consider booking a 4-session block for private super-vision or a 3-session block for mentor coaching.

Many coaches have not had the chance to experience individual supervision or supervision in small groups. You're invited to join our qualified volunteer supervisors, who will meet with small groups to demonstrate supervision. This will be an opportunity to explore whether supervision benefits you and how it can support your coaching practice. For LEADERS - Recent Events: Leadership Development | Looking Back and Growing Forward
Looking Back: Interactional Coaching: The Psychodynamics of ‘Difficult’, ‘Defensive’ and ‘Defeating’ People
In October, I participated in the Coaching.com Coaching Mastery session, “Interactional Coaching: The Psychodynamics of 'Difficult,' 'Defensive,' and 'Defeating' People,” led by Michelle Brody, author of Own Your Armor. Michelle specialises in helping coaches and leaders work effectively with challenging dynamics, shifting interactions with “difficult” individuals from cycles of frustration to constructive engagement.
This session provided powerful insights into the psychodynamics behind defensive behaviours, offering tools for shifting from a state of deadlock to one of hopeful engagement. A key concept Michelle introduced was “interactional coaching,” which goes beyond managing surface behaviours and focuses on the underlying mistrust and defensive patterns that often entrench individuals in unproductive cycles. This perspective aligns with the 4Front and Lead With Coaching Institute’s values of empathy and empowerment, as it encourages leaders to understand challenging individuals on a deeper level and reframe defensiveness as an opportunity for positive change.
Key Learning Takeaways
Michelle’s teachings resonate with 4Front and Lead With Coaching Institute’s commitment to fostering constructive relationships and personal responsibility. Here are three insights I found particularly impactful:
If you were to choose to embrace this curiosity-driven approach, what impact might it have on your own 'difficult' interactions?
What would be possible if you were to acknowledge the ‘armour’ in your interactions, exploring alternative ways to foster openness?
How might shifting your focus from criticism to constructive possibilities impact the dynamics in your leadership practice?
Leading Forward: Conversational Habits: Creating a Coaching Space to Enable Wiser Choices
Next month, I look forward to sharing my recap of the upcoming webinar, "Conversational Habits: Creating a Coaching Space to Enable Wiser Choices," by esteemed thought leader Megan Reitz. She explores the nuances of effective coaching in professional environments. A Top Global Business Thinker, according to Thinkers50, Reitz is an Associate Fellow at Saïd Business School and an Adjunct Professor at Hult International Business School. Her expertise lies in leadership, dialogue, and mindfulness, providing critical insights for today’s fast-paced workplaces.
This transformative session highlights how ingrained speaking and listening habits shape the coach-coachee relationship and influence outcomes. Reitz encourages participants to step back from the frenetic pace of modern work life, offering fresh perspectives on their roles. Attendees will acquire practical techniques to foster open, honest dialogue and create coaching spaces that prioritise thoughtful decision-making over short-term results.
This webinar is expected to be especially relevant for professionals in the pharmaceutical sector. As one main focus to equip them with valuable tools to enhance leadership skills and improve team dynamics, ultimately leading to more informed decisions.

Unlocking High-Value Professional Development for 21st-Century Leaders
As we enter the final weeks of 2024, many are preparing for a strategic 2025, planning investments that will yield long-term value. Among the most critical investments is leadership development—especially for today’s leaders, whose role requires steering through unprecedented change. The Lead with Coaching (LWC) Foundation and Practitioner Programmes are designed to provide leaders, pharmacists, and coaches with essential tools to navigate complexity with clarity, purpose, and resilience.
The Benefits of the LWC Programmes: Foundation and Practitioner
The Lead with Coaching Foundation (LWC-F) Programme is designed for leaders ready to align their professional practice with their values, supporting meaningful contributions to their organisations and communities. Over the course of this programme, participants from industries such as pharmacy, elder care, construction, engineering, healthcare, and logistics, join forces to develop competencies in values-based leadership. Through practical coaching exercises, participants hone self-awareness, empathy, and the skills to empower others—a transformative journey that allows leaders to integrate a coaching mindset in their daily interactions. They experience firsthand the power of coaching to build trust, foster innovation, and lead through complex challenges.
For those who have completed the Foundation Programme, the Lead with Coaching Practitioner (LWC-P) Programme represents the next level, focusing on advanced coaching techniques, challenging conversations, and leadership tools designed to inspire growth and drive team performance. This exclusive programme is an invitation to deepen your impact as a leader, empowering not just your own development but that of your entire organisation.
The Systemic Cost of Not Investing in Leadership Development
The cost of not investing in comprehensive leadership training is high, especially in times of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (known as VUCA). The risks include disengaged teams, unaddressed conflicts, burnout, and a potential loss of competitive edge in industries undergoing transformation. Leaders who embrace the LWC programmes take proactive steps to create adaptable, values-driven cultures that thrive. They develop the capacity to effectively address challenges head-on, ensuring resilience and sustainable growth.
Why Lead With Coaching, in a 21st-Century World?
The Lead with Coaching programmes are uniquely valuable for today’s leaders. Built upon the global thought leadership and cross-industry experience of the founders, these programmes are enriched by their involvement in international coaching networks and partnerships with organisations dedicated to social impact, professional leadership, and pharmacist development. The diversity of industries and functions represented among our graduates speaks to the universality of the LWC approach, helping each participant create a positive ripple effect within their teams and communities.
Reflective Question
